Erika graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelors of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies, with a specialization in ESL, from the University of North TX.  She realized teaching high school was her passion and taught Family and Consumer Science at Garland High School for four years.  She resigned from teaching to pursue a Masters of Humanities, with a concentration in Psychology from the University of Dallas in 2019.  During her time there, she had the opportunity to study abroad in Italy, Cuba, and Costa Rica.  She has been mentoring high school and college age girls for almost a decade.  As a Teacher, Mentor, Aunt, and Mother of two, she is passionate about lifting up young Latinas and supporting them to be the curators of their success.  She has been involved with LIP in various capacities for seven years, and is looking forward to overseeing the program.  All the Chairs (and HWNT members) before her have created a strong foundation and she can’t wait to build on it!

Arlyn was born and raised in Dallas, TX but proudly likes to state she is Guatemalan. As a first generation college student, Arlyn understands how difficult it is to navigate the college journey. She remembers not knowing the difference between private and public universities and not understanding the huge difference in cost. Seeking out programs similar to  Latinas in Progress, helped her move forward in her education. She attended Texas Tech University where she received her Bachelor's in Biology and then received her license as a Registered Dental Hygienist. After 10 yrs as a dental hygienist, she decided to pursue her Masters. In May 2019 she completed her Masters in Healthcare Administration and Leadership from the University of Texas at Dallas. Arlyn wants to make an impact in our healthcare system and currently is looking for the next opportunity that will allow her to make a difference in health equity. Arlyn is currently the Scholarship-Chair of the LIP program where she hopes to be a resource for students just like her.
